Frequently asked questions
What we are asked before an order, and what we are asked after. If your question is not here, write to us.
Getting started
I’m not in IT. Is this for me?
Yes, for what we install: an ERP or Passroyal Panel arrives ready, and you create your websites from the panel. For a bare server, you need someone who knows how, or the will to learn: tell us before you order.
How is it different from shared hosting?
On shared hosting, many websites share the same machine and the same settings. On a VPS server, the memory is reserved for you and the system is yours: you install whatever you want.
Which plan should I choose for my business website?
For a showcase website or a small shop, two CPUs and two gigabytes of memory are plenty. For an ERP or a busy database, count on double that. The calculator on the Cloud computing page shows the price as you go, and you can write to us if you are unsure. And if you start too small, you can make it bigger later from your client area.
How long before my server is ready?
A few minutes after payment. Creation is automatic, you follow it live, and the access email goes out as soon as the server responds.
Do I need a domain name?
No. Your server can be reached at its address from delivery, and a ready-to-use ERP also gets a .sslip.io address you can use straight away. You connect your domain whenever you like.
Ordering and billing
How does billing work?
Each server is paid in advance, monthly or yearly — a year at the price of ten months. Seven days before the end of the period, a renewal order is sent to you by email. If your account balance covers it in full, it is paid from the balance on its own; otherwise, you pay it before the due date. On request, a server can also be paid by the hour, from your balance.
How can I pay?
By card, from your client area. The payment goes through a secure page, and the server starts as soon as the payment is confirmed. Prices exclude tax.
What happens if I don’t pay on time?
On the due date, an unpaid server is suspended: it stops, but its data stays. Seven days later, it is deleted for good. A payment during the suspension starts it again.
Is there a commitment?
No. You pay one period at a time, and you can delete a server whenever you want from your client area. The unused time of the paid period is not lost: it goes back to your account balance.
What happens if I delete a server before the end of the period?
The unused time goes back to your account balance once the deletion is complete, and an email confirms it. The exact amount shows before you confirm. For a monthly server, it is the price paid multiplied by the whole days left, divided by the days in the period; the day of the deletion counts as used. Example: a server at MAD 160 excl. tax a month, deleted on the tenth day of a 30-day period, adds MAD 106.66 excl. tax to your balance. For a yearly server, the days used are counted at the monthly price: a yearly server deleted before the end of its term does not keep the yearly discount. Nothing goes back for an order we gave you or that cost nothing, for a server suspended or deleted for non-payment, or for a server we delete for abuse.
Can I pay for my server by the hour?
Yes, on request: from the Billing page (« Facturation ») of your client area, and our team replies by email. An hourly server is paid from your balance, according to what it really uses: the processor and memory by use, the disk and the IPv4 address in full. Each hour is charged at its full price before it starts (the monthly price divided by 730, rounded up to the next centime: MAD 0.22 excl. tax for a server at MAD 160 excl. tax a month), and what the server did not use goes back to your balance the following hour. Over a month, it never costs more than the monthly price. To create one, your balance must cover 72 hours.
What does an hour really cost?
It depends on what your server does. A server with 2 CPU, 2 GB and 50 GB and an IPv4 address (MAD 390 excl. tax a month) costs from MAD 0.25 to MAD 0.54 excl. tax an hour: about MAD 0.27 when lightly loaded, MAD 0.36 for a busy website, MAD 0.53 at full load. A whole month lightly loaded comes to about MAD 198 excl. tax instead of 390. Each hour, with its processor, its memory and its cost, is shown on the server’s page.
How is memory counted?
We count the memory your server’s system really uses, cache excluded: what the “free -h” command shows as used. Memory kept as cache, which the system releases as soon as it needs it, is not billed. If the system does not report its memory, it is counted in full, and the server’s page says so.
What does an hourly server cost when it is stopped?
When stopped, it costs only its storage and its IPv4 address: the processor and memory are not billed. A server stopped partway through an hour pays for its processor and memory only for the part of the hour it was running; the storage and the IPv4 count for the whole hour. Each hour is shown on the server’s page.
What happens when the balance of an hourly server runs out?
An email warns you when your balance covers only 72 hours, then 24 hours, at full price. When it runs out, the server is stopped and its data kept; it starts again on its own as soon as your balance covers 24 hours. With no credit added within 7 days, it is deleted. Deleting an hourly server adds nothing to the balance: only the hours started have been paid.
What is my account balance for?
To pay for your PassRoyal services. It fills up when you delete a server before the end of its period, or when you add credit from the Billing page (« Facturation »), from MAD 100 to MAD 20,000 excl. tax at a time. It pays for a new order in full or in part, your renewals on its own when it covers them in full (you can turn this off in Billing), and each hour of your hourly servers. The balance cannot be withdrawn as cash, earns no interest and does not expire while your account is open.
Are prices in dirhams?
Yes. All our prices are set in Moroccan dirhams (MAD), excluding tax. If a page shows them converted into your currency, a line under the prices says so.
Your server
What is included in each plan?
A virtual machine, with guaranteed memory, NVMe storage, root access, the system installed and the console reachable from your browser. The public IPv4 address is optional.
Do I really get root access?
Yes, with no restriction. You install what you want and open the ports you want. We do not touch the content of your machine.
Can I choose who can reach my server?
Yes, from Networks › Firewall (« Réseaux › Pare-feu ») in your client area. You write groups of rules, for example SSH only from your office and the web open to all, then apply them to one or more servers: whatever the rules do not allow is blocked. The filtering happens outside your server, nothing can switch it off from inside, and the console always stays reachable.
What if I lock myself out of SSH?
Open the console from your client area: it goes through the machine itself, not through your server’s network. So a badly set firewall never locks anyone out.
What if I break something? (It happens to the best of us.)
The console opens from your client area even if the server’s network no longer responds, and the password is changed in the same place. To start from scratch: copy what you care about, delete the server and order a new one.
Cloud computing, VPS, virtual server: what’s the difference?
With us, they are three names for the same thing: a server of your own, with its guaranteed memory, its storage and root access, created on demand and paid by the period. We call it cloud computing because you rent it, without buying or installing a machine.
Why are some sizes “on request”?
A new account first orders the common sizes; the largest open on request. Write to us by ticket or from the Contact page with the size you want: once your account is open to that size, the order works like any other.
Can I change the size of my server?
Yes, from your client area: open the server, then Settings > Upgrade (« Paramètres > Mise à niveau »). Choose more processor, memory or disk: you pay only the difference until the end of the period already paid, and the server restarts once, for about two minutes, after you confirm, right away or at a time of your choice, at night for example. The size cannot be reduced afterwards, disk included.
Where are your servers?
Worldwide. You choose the region when you order, depending on where your visitors are and where you want your data to be.
Ready-to-use ERPs
Which ERPs do you install?
Odoo, Dolibarr and ERPNext, in their full, open-source versions. You choose them when you order, among the Apps of the creation wizard.
How do I get my login details?
By email, with your ERP’s address, the administrator login and its password. This email is sent only once we have opened the login page ourselves: if it does not go out, the application is not responding yet, and we are alerted.
Do you keep my ERP password?
No. It is generated when you order, passed to the machine only once, sent in the email, then erased from our databases. If you lose it, you reset it from the application.
Why does my browser show a warning?
Because the server’s certificate is self-signed: it does encrypt the connection, but no authority issued it. Connect your domain name and install a public certificate to make the warning go away.
Can I install another ERP, such as Sage or SAP?
Yes, on a bare server: the machine is yours. We do not preinstall them, but nothing stops you from deploying them like any other application.
Passroyal Panel
Does Passroyal Panel cost extra?
No. It is included: you pay for the server, at the price of any machine of the same size. No licence, no fee per website.
How do I get it?
When you create your server: choose Passroyal Panel among the Apps of the wizard, then the size of the machine. On first boot, the panel sets itself up, and your login details arrive by email as soon as it responds.
How many websites can I host?
The panel sets no limit: the size of the server decides. A few showcase websites fit in 2 GB of memory; a shop or several busy websites need more.
Can I use my own domain names?
Yes. Point the domain to the server’s public IP address at your registrar, then create the website in the panel: it checks that the domain really reaches the machine before requesting the SSL certificate.
Who has access to my panel?
You. The administrator account is created on your server’s first boot, with a password of its own, and two-factor authentication is required before any other action. You also keep root access to the machine.
Does the panel handle email?
No. It does not host mailboxes. For your addresses, use a dedicated email service: your websites can send their emails through it.
Can I install something else on the server?
Yes, the machine is yours. Just avoid editing by hand the files the panel generates, such as the websites’ configuration: it spots the ones that have changed, but it must remain the reference.
Data and security
Is my data backed up?
If you turn on Cloud Backup: every 2 hours, to a separate machine. Otherwise, no, and deleting a server destroys its disk. Passroyal Panel can also schedule backups of your websites to S3 storage or an SFTP server. In every case, keep a copy outside our servers.
Do you access the content of my server?
No. We run the machine and the network it sits on, not what you put on it. Opening a console is logged — who, when, for how long — but never what happens in it.
What data do you keep about me?
Your account, your organisation, your servers and their configuration, your orders and your tickets. The details, how long each is kept and your rights are on the Privacy page.
What happens to my server if I delete it?
It is destroyed, disk included. Without Cloud Backup, we keep no copy of it. With it, its copies stay for 30 days, unless you erase them too. Export what you care about before deleting it. If its paid period is not over, the unused time goes back to your account balance.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
On the sign-in page, click “Forgot your password?” (« Mot de passe oublié ? ») and enter your username or your email address. A 6-digit code arrives at your account’s verified address, with your username: type it in, choose a new password, and you are signed in. Your other sessions are closed, and two-factor authentication is still asked for if you turned it on. If your account has no verified address, write to us from the Contact page.
My sign-in is refused even though my password is right. Why?
After ten wrong passwords within a few minutes, password sign-in to your account is paused for a while, even with the right password: that is what stops someone from guessing yours. An email warns you at your account’s verified address. To get in right away, click “Forgot your password?” (« Mot de passe oublié ? »): the code you receive by email signs you in and ends the lock. So that a password alone is never enough, turn on two-factor authentication in My account, Security tab (« Mon compte », « Sécurité »).
Backups
How much does Cloud Backup cost?
The price is counted per GB of disk per month: it depends on the size of the disk, not on what it holds or on the number of copies. It shows when you order, at the Backups step (« Sauvegardes »). Restoring and backing up on demand cost nothing more.
Does my server stop during a backup?
No. The system freezes for a brief moment so that the copy is clean, without the server stopping.
Where are my backups kept?
On a machine separate from the one that runs your server, encrypted.
Who can read my backups?
The machine that keeps them cannot: it does not have the key. We keep that key, because it is what lets us restore your server. We do not open your backups to read them.
Can I download a backup or restore a single file?
No. You restore the whole server, or you create a new server from a backup. To get back a single file, create that new server, an order like any other, copy the file, then delete the server.
Are my databases consistent?
The copy is taken as if the server’s power had been cut: on start-up, the database puts itself right from its transaction log. For a critical database, keep your own exports too.
What happens if I delete the server, or stop the option?
Server deleted: its copies stay for 30 days, unless you ask for them to be erased too. Option stopped: they stay for 14 days. A deletion does not make a new copy.
How is it different from Passroyal Panel’s backups?
Cloud Backup copies the whole server, with nothing to set up. Passroyal Panel backs up your websites and their databases to storage you choose, S3 or SFTP. The two complement each other.
PassZTNA
When can I start?
PassZTNA is opening in stages, to a first group of businesses that we support one by one. PassTunnel opens first, and the other modules follow. Send your request: we will write to you as soon as your plan can start at your company.
How much does PassZTNA cost?
From MAD 42 to 129 excl. tax per user per month with yearly billing, and from MAD 49 to 150 excl. tax with monthly billing, depending on the plan. Essentiel starts at 5 users, Avancé at 10, Business at 25. Enterprise, with PassDiode, is priced together with you, starting at 50 users.
How does the 14-day trial work?
You request it with our form, with no bank card. We open it for your organisation, and the 14 days start that day. At the end, you choose your plan, or access stops, at no cost.
Can I change plans?
Yes. Start with the one that meets your needs today: when they grow, write to us, and we move your organisation to the next plan.
Do I need to change my applications?
No. An agent is installed next to them and connects out to the gateway. The application sees no difference, and your users keep their usual tools.
Do my users need to install anything?
Yes, a small program on their computer, the agent, for Windows, Linux or macOS. Access without an agent, from a browser, comes in a later stage.
Do I have to keep my VPN?
PassTunnel serves the same need, working remotely, without opening the whole network. The move is prepared one application at a time: the two can run side by side during the transition.
What about my public website?
It stays public, and nginx remains the right tool for it. PassZTNA is for what must stay reserved for your teams: an ERP, a remote desktop, a database.
Support
How do I reach you if I have a problem?
Open a ticket from your client area: it stays attached to your organisation and to the server concerned, and you are notified of our replies by email. If chat is turned on for you, write to us live from your client area. You can also use the contact form.
How quickly do you reply?
We do not promise a set response time, because we do not want to promise what we cannot keep. Requests are handled in order and according to their urgency.
Does support cover the administration of my server?
Support covers the platform, ordering, billing and the infrastructure up to your machine. Administering the system installed on it is not part of it.
I can’t sign in to my account any more. What should I do?
Use “Forgot your password?” (« Mot de passe oublié ? ») on the sign-in page: it also reopens an account locked after too many attempts. If you have lost your two-factor authentication app and your recovery codes, write to us. We will reply to your account’s address: then send us the number of your last order and the name of one of your servers. For security, two-factor authentication is turned off 24 hours later.
